Ultra Solar & Wind Solutions is proud to be the first to offer the “Micro Wind” solution to challenges facing deployment of effective wind energy systems. We are the only Authorized Distributors of the Marilyn 3.3kW & 500W wind turbine manufactured by Renewable Energy Solutions. (RES) has developed a breakthrough technology that promises to overcome technological, cost, and other barriers to market expansion currently experienced in the wind industry.
Our wind turbine products go where traditional small wind turbines can’t and outperform all competitors in price per kW/h comparisons. Designed for low-cost, reliable electrical power production, our modular scalable design turbine enables in-series, multi-turbine applications appropriate for rooftop, ground-based or other non-traditional installations. The versatility and scalability of the design enables residential, commercial, and small scale utility power applications.
The breakthrough aerodynamic design of the Marilyn rotor enables it to efficiently capture linear and turbulent air flows from any direction.
We offer a revolutionary Wind Turbine System that has never been seen before: The MARILYN 3.3kW Wind Turbine manufactured by Renewable Energy Solutions Inc. This new device has a very simple construction and allows for a very fast and easy installation making this wind turbine an ideal solution for residential single family homes, townhomes, condos or even for commercial business applications. The principal components of this system consist of a unique omni-directional Rotor, a Rotor Support, a Permanent Magnetic Generator, an Alfa Gear Multiplier, and a 220V/50 Hz Guilon Inverter on grid. The units may be mounted on a rooftop or simply ground mounted. At 2m/s or 5mph the turbine starts generating electricity and with wind at 13m/s or 30mph the unit provides a full 3.3kW of power.
The Chesapeake Bay and Coastlines provide an average wind of approximately 13mph. At that rate with a Marilyn Wind Turbine in place, it is possible to collect a minimum of 7000kWh/yr! That amount of wind energy alone is equal to utility savings of $84 per month or $1008 per year! With an average annual utility inflation rate increase of 5.5% to 6%, by year 30 the Marilyn wind turbine will save you $153 per month or $1836 per year! The average turbine payoff is 4-6 years. When comparing to other investments, the Marilyn offers an Internal ROI of 28% over 30 years!
Marilyn is a helix type, vertical axle, omni-directional foil. Its fiberglass construction incorporates a 3 helix mono-block blade, that may be mounted on a variety of support structures (shown mounted on tripod). In operation, wind force acts on the rotor sides and creates a torsion moment which is transmitted through the axle and gear planet to the current generator.
The Marilyn rotor has the advantage of a larger power coefficient at the same wind speed over other rotors of similar size. Rotor movement begins at a wind speed of 2-3 m/s. At high wind speeds of more than 20 m/s, its geometrical construction provides a hydraulic self-brake limiting rotor revolutions to 150 rpm. This feature ensures protection for mechanical and electrical elements at high wind speeds without mounting brakes or electronic safety systems.
RES field testing of the commercial production turbine has yielded excellent results for the 2 kW, 2 X 2 meter turbine. The diagram below plots the power curve. Marilyn captures the wind from any direction (omni-directional) providing unprecedented efficiency in conversion of wind energy to rotational motion (over 30 % efficiency in internal testing compared with HAWT wind turbine averages of 20-25%).
Marilyn’s unique ability to use wind from both vertical and horizontal planes enables it to operate efficiently in the turbulent wind flows that occur at altitudes closer to the ground. Its aerodynamic design optimizes both the upper and lower turbine surface areas ability to be driven by the wind. What this translates to, is conversion of vertical wind flows associated with angled residential rooftops while simultaneously accepting horizontal linear airflow above the roof.
Other unique benefits of Marilyn that offer advantages over traditional wind turbine design include:
· Small footprint appropriate for urban, suburban and rural settings
· Revolutionary airfoil design permits efficient operation even at wind speeds of 2.5 m/s
· Mono-block construction (single piece airfoil) – enables reduced mass-production cost, easy
· installation, maintenance and reliability in the field and solves icing damage issue common
· to HAWTs deployed in icing areas.
· Its unique high surface area also provides the potential for integrated solar collection for
· simultaneous dual source energy production
· Light weight and compact vertical axle turbine is uniquely suited for single axle multi-turbine,
· in-series deployment
· At high speeds of 20 m/s acts as its own self braking system
Because of its unique characteristics, RES Marilyn technology has market applications in commercial building rooftop applications, small utility applications such as those for remote communities, off-grid commercial scale applications such as cell phone tower applications and residential applications in suburban and urban areas.
Marilyn 8 Rotor Commercial Wind Turbine SystemUtility Scale
A key characteristic of the Marilyn turbine is its ability to be deployed in series, enabling multi-rotor scalable output energy systems designed for commercial and utility scale production. When deployed on large buildings, Marilyn will efficiently leverage airflow acceleration principles that occur when wind passes above and around large structures to achieve significantly improved output performance. The design also provides the potential for integrated solar collection for simultaneous dual source energy production.
RES has developed a breakthrough geometric airfoil design that overcomes deployment limitations of the traditional Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT), enabling effective installation on rooftops and in other locations not previously possible. RES’s unique, modular and scalable turbine design makes installation of multi-turbine commercial and utility scale power production systems in locations such as:
· Atop tall buildings, supplementing traditional energy sources
· Arrayed in multi-rotor energy wall configurations providing local renewable energy supplies to municipalities and businesses
· Attached to cell phone towers to provide remote off-grid power
· Framed above fossil fuel utility plant cooling systems to provide energy recovery
· On commercial rooftops scaled to be economical for restaurants and other small business
· Provided in rooftop or backyard single and tandem rotor applications economical for households
The remarkable significance of this breakthrough is that it makes possible deployment of small wind systems in new urban and suburban markets that here-to-fore could not have been considered for small wind implementations. Moreover, the qualities of our scalable turbine design that can produce energy at utility scale levels enable it to overcome challenges that have accompanied large wind projects including:
· Grid/transmission infrastructure costs associated with remote desert and maritime high wind resourced areas required
· Aesthetic objections to massive turbine towers
· Avian and other wildlife concerns
· Questionable reliability record
The Marilyn turbine design is U.S. patent protected and assigned to RES. Its large surface area contributes to a superior power coefficient that achieves remarkable kW/h performance for its size at a highly competitive price point. Its unique design efficiently converts non-linear (turbulent) airflow enabling deployment in suburban residential and urban rooftop settings where traditional horizontal axis turbines cannot effectively operate.
